Empowering the individuals we serve to participate fully in their community is a core value at Search and the cornerstone of an active, fun and socially connected life.
Community Life Services are offered as part of Search's Supported Living, Adult Learning and Career Services programs. Community Life Services provide individuals with the choice of participating in a variety of social, cultural and recreational experiences, as well as volunteer opportunities. Activities are planned around the interests and preferences of each individual. A variety of community-based activities are offered every week, so individuals always have opportunities to explore the world outside their door.
Search's commitment in this area is best illustrated by Search for Adventure, our unique travel program that offers vacation experiences to destinations near and far. The big idea here is that people with disabilities should have the same opportunities to travel and go on vacation as the rest of us. Search for Adventure steps up by giving people with disabilities experiences and adventures of a lifetime. Getaways have included hiking the historic Appalachian Trail, experiencing the majesty of the Grand Canyon and riding the range at the Powderhorn Dude Ranch in Colorado.
"In Santa Barbara I dipped my feet in the water, in the ocean water. I've never been in the ocean water in my life. I just did it to see how it felt. It felt good. That night I slept well." – Sean, Search consumer
